Curated and produced by Kive Studio, Ctrl+Save brings together seven LA-based artists working across installation, sculpture, moving image, performance, and interactive art examining perception, memory, and systems of control. Tracing from a longer history of reproduction, from early forms of documentation and photographic circulation to contemporary computational systems, the exhibition asks what changes when images, information, and experiences become increasingly reproducible. At the same time, it considers the systems that determine what is recorded, preserved, valued, and made visible.

Participation, time, and proximity alter the works themselves. A responsive sound sculpture gradually releases fragments of an oral archive the longer a visitor remains nearby. Elsewhere, the familiar intimacy of messaging a partner from a bed is unsettled by a simulated presence. A divination mirror interprets rhinestones participants place on their own faces, giving them control over the surface being read, while a techno-ritual film imagines a future where the extraction of rare earth minerals is reclaimed and ritualized as a form of cultural and technological sovereignty. Placed in conversation, these works reveal that our ways of sensing and interpreting the world are shaped not only by technology, but by cultural, spatial, and embodied systems.

These questions extend into the architecture of Art/Space 114, located in Downtown Los Angeles’ Historic Old Bank District. The exhibition occupies the former Farmers & Merchants Bank Building, constructed in 1905 and later transformed through the neighborhood’s adaptive reuse movement. Once part of an infrastructure organized around the circulation and preservation of financial value, the building now serves as a site for artistic experimentation, cultural exchange, and community. For Ctrl+Save, the history of the site becomes part of the exhibition itself: for eleven days, a former institution of transactions, records, and value becomes a space for asking who or what receives that authority today.
